Follow The Leader – Spirit Led Champions

Follow the Leader

Jesus has an exciting mission to bring fullness of life to all people, as many as will receive him.  To accomplish this mission, he has formed the Church, the gathering of those who follow him.  The purpose of following Christ, however, is not simply personal benefit, but so that one’s leadership potential might be discovered and unleashed to bring Spirit-led transformation to a broken world.  Toward this end,

The Bethlehem family of ministries exists to encourage, equip, and empower people to be Spirit-led champions who unleash their leadership calling in their circle of influence, so that everyone is fully alive in Jesus!

This three-week series will focus on the important pieces of this mission calling.

August 15, 2021 – Spirit-Led Champions, 2 Timothy 1:6-14

God is raising up people whose confidence is not in themselves, but in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Each believer has a clear calling from Christ to a life of victory over fear, death, and shame, a life that gives bold witness to the gospel by the power of God.

2 Timothy 1:6-14 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, 9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12 which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me. 13 Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.

About the speaker

David Langewisch

First and foremost you need to know I am a sinner who has been cleansed by the blood of Jesus. I believe my life is fully in him. I feel good about my training to be a pastor. However, my heart's desire is to simply be a servant of Christ, used by him to help people experience fullness of life in him. Sometimes I think I’m smart. Sometimes I think I’m funny. But I count all of this as a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ and being found in him. My favorite book of the Bible is Romans, and if you have to pin me down, my favorite chapter is Romans 8. Personally, I think this matters more than knowing I’m from Minnesota, or that I was graduated from Lutheran schools starting with elementary school. Curiosity might lead you to ask about my wonderful wife, Lynn, and four children, but I would probably exaggerate about their greatness and how helpful would that be? If you really want to know other positions I’ve held, honors I’ve received, etc., you can ask and I will try to remember. But when you walk away from our conversation, this is what I want you to remember about me – I am a sinner who has been cleansed by the blood of Jesus and I believe my life is fully in him. And if, in my contact with you, some of this rubs off on you, and you share the same perspective with greater conviction, I will count it a blessing.
