July 25, 2021 – The Sensual Fool
Proverbs 18:1-8
Sometimes it seems people are determined to make wrong choices. The Bible calls these “sensual fools”. The Bible talks more about this kind of fool than any other. This type of fool rejects correction from parents and other authorities. Christ’s perfect obedience and submission to authorities is a freeing power for the sensual fool, as Christ’s righteousness becomes our righteousness.
Proverbs 18:1-8 Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment. 2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion. 3 When wickedness comes, contempt comes also, and with dishonor comes disgrace. 4 The words of a man's mouth are deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook. 5 It is not good to be partial to[a] the wicked or to deprive the righteous of justice. 6 A fool's lips walk into a fight, and his mouth invites a beating. 7 A fool's mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul. 8 The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body.
Proverbs 10:23 Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool, but wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding.
Proverbs 12:19-20 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment. Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan peace have joy.
Proverbs 13:20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
Proverbs 26:3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools.
Proverbs 19:29 Condemnation is ready for scoffers, and beating for the backs of fools.
