August 1, 2021 – The Scorning Fool
Proverbs 9:7-12
For some people, the only way you can get them to change their evil ways is through rebuke and punishment. This is the scorning fool. And even this is met with resistance from the scorning fool. This kind of fool detests people and ideas that contradict how he or she is thinking. It is important for us to examine the ways we might fall into this foolishness, and with repentant hearts, fall before the throne of Christ for his forgiveness.
Proverbs 9:7-12 7 Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse, and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury. 8 Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. 10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. 11 For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life. 12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff, you alone will bear it.
Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
Proverbs 13:1 A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.
Proverbs 14:6 A scoffer seeks wisdom in vain, but knowledge is easy for a man of understanding.
Proverbs 15:12 A scoffer does not like to be reproved; he will not go to the wise.
Proverbs 19:25 Strike a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; reprove a man of understanding, and he will gain knowledge.
Proverbs 21:11 When a scoffer is punished, the simple becomes wise; when a wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.
Proverbs 22:10 Drive out a scoffer, and strife will go out, and quarreling and abuse will cease.
