April 7, 2023 – Good Friday
Good Friday is a Christian observance that commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. It occurs on the Friday before Easter and is part of Holy Week. Good Friday is a day of mourning, reflection, and repentance, as Christians remember the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.
Join us for this service, worship is a solemn focus on the crucifixion of Jesus. The liturgy often includes scripture readings, a sermon, and prayers and the strepitus, but communion is not offered. The service features the reading of the Passion narrative from the Gospels, recounting the events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion. We have a Tenebrae service, which involves the gradual extinguishing of candles or dimming of lights to symbolize the darkness that fell upon the earth when Jesus died. The service ends in silence and darkness, with worshippers departing in quiet reflection.
