Mark's gospel is different from that of the other gospel writers is that Mark never met Jesus in person. During the growth of the early church, Mark became close friends with the apostle Peter and Mark's gospel writings undoubtedly have as their source Peter's accounts of his time with Jesus. It is a rich and complimentary gospel to both the gospels of Matthew and Luke. Mark's gospel focuses on the works and words of Christ and their effect on those who experienced Jesus miracles and heard His teaching. God's Word through Mark is as effective for the heart of the contemporary reader as it was when Jesus spoke these words directly to the people of His time.
