January 23, 2022 – Letting Go of Jealousy

James 3:13-18

Stories of jealousy fill the Scriptures: Cain and Abel, Jacob and Esau, Leah and Rachel, Saul and David.  Envy and jealousy are common to every generation and every culture.  Wishing for what another has, or feeling entitled to what another has, is evidence that we do not fully trust God and his plan.  Escaping the jealousy trap is the first step to a life of satisfaction and contentment, a harvest of righteousness and peace.

James 3:13-18  13Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

About the speaker

David Dyer

Hi I'm Pastor David Dyer. I was the Vicar from August 2001 through July 2002 and then called as the Associate Pastor in June 2003 through January 2007. I am most proud of my kids who have a shared appreciation and love of all things adventuring in the outdoors. In addition, I love that my kids have a heart for caring and sharing Jesus’ love with others. My favorite part of being on the Bethlehem team is that I enjoy everyone’s different background and experience which brings a balance to our team approach to reaching the lost. 1 Corinthians 2:2, “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you but Jesus Christ and him crucified."
